dining out: gt fish & oyster
Alright, I have learned my lesson. Annie, do not post long lists of somewhat complicated, time-consuming, expensive to-do’s for all to see. Yeesh, I’ve still got a long way to go on just one of my foodie bucket lists! With the year more than half over I need to get my butt in gear to get some of these fun things on the DONE list.
One of the places I wanted to try this year was GT Fish & Oyster – considering my obsession with all things seafood, I can’t believe it’s taken so long for us to go grab a bite there, or 20.
Ladies and gents, it was ah-mazing.
First off we had oysters. We only got a few, because we had a pretty epic order ahead of us. Typically I prefer East coast oysters, but we tried some from Washington and they were delish. One day I’m just going to sit on the ocean (in Maine, of course), eat oysters, soak up the rays, and high-five Sir Dave about how awesome life is.
Next up was the shrimp bruschetta, which had avocado, toasted pistachios, grapefruit and cilantro. Simple, refreshing and I wanted another round.
YOU GUYS. The clam chowder is perhaps the best I’ve ever had, or at least tied with Portland Lobster Company, which is saying a lot. It has bacon, potatoes, tender clams, and is topped with their delicious hot sauce and chives. Dave and I just kept looking at each other and smiling like big weirdos the whole time we slurped this up. YUM.
Next up – yes this keeps on going – we ordered the fish tacos, which were Mahi Mahi with garlic marinade, chipotle aioli, and pork chicharron. Pork skin on fish tacos? Hell yes.
We also had the fish and chips, which were perfection. The cod was beer battered (right up my alley) and came with a really unique, tasty dill pickle remoulade that I want to try to replicate at home.
And if you’re curious, no, we certainly didn’t need any more food, but my obsession with Lobster Rolls knows no bounds! Lord have mercy, this was good. So fresh, with a light dressing, and the buttered roll has got me drooling right now. A must-have.
Last up, we closed the night with a small glass of Pappy Van Winkle whiskey, which is from Buffalo Trace Distillery, which we visited on our trip to Louisville. This practically set my mouth ablaze, so I let Dave handle that, and I stuck with a frosty beer.
Overall, I am thrilled I finally crossed this off my bucket list. I loved the atmosphere – just like many of the places in New England we have visited, the service was excellent and the food – oh, the food – fantastic. Thanks for a great visit GT. Be back soon!
Everything looks amazing! We’re going for seafood tomorrow night, but it’ll prolly be Red Lobster. So jealous!!
Hey now! I love me some Red Lobster! Those cheddar biscuits!! YUM! 🙂
Yep!! We used to frequent the one in VaBeach when we lived there. We had the same waiter every time we went. He would bring us “oops drinks” from the bar and give us cheddar biscuits to take home FREE! I miss him!!
Very good Annie, we are so fortunate here in Florida to get fresh Seafood every week at our local Seafood Market. I love Sea Scallops and yesterday bought 8 pounds home with me-Woo Hoo. Tonight is seared Sea Scallops with several different dipping sauces I’ve made.
Thanks Cheryl! Mmmm, love scallops!
When two of my brother’s (I have four total) caught wind of Sea Scallops they naturally dropped by: no, I never mind and always buy plenty! Have a terrific weekend!
