Dining Out

dining out: longman & eagle

Alright! Dave and I finally made it to Longman & Eagle, which was on my foodie bucket list for 2015. It might seem ridiculous that I have to make a list of places I want to visit in my own city just to get my butt out of my own neighborhood – but it’s helped since I could seriously be content only eating at the three taco joints within walking distance of my apartment. Mmmm…tacos. Focus, Annie. Let’s get right to the good stuff – the amazing food at L&E!

I started with a cocktail called the Hybrid which included El Destilador Reposado, El Buho Mezcal, Breckenridge Bitters, Rareman & Teagle, agave, lemon and lavender. For some reason I’m in love with absolutely any cocktail that has a rosemary sprig in it. I’m easy to please.

The first dish we had was the housemade burrata which was served with mushroom marmalade, compressed apricots, radishes, raspberry mustard and whole grain bread. It. Was. Awesome. Now of course I’m on the hunt for a recipe I can do at home to make fresh burrata.

In an effort to just be open to eating pretty much anything and everything when Dave asked, “You want to order the Pig’s Head?” I just said, “Yep!” The description on the menu was: Pig’s Head with blue cheese, carrot & celery relish and buffalo sauce – still not super clear on what part of the pig’s head I ate, but it was delicious. I think the mystery here is probably best…

To continue my up-for-anything attitude, we also ordered the bone marrow dish. It included Slagel Family Farms bone marrow, bacon-shallot jam, green apple kimchi, pickled garlic & shallots, parsley and sourdough bread. The three different toppings were delicious and definitely gave me a well-rounded first go at the bone marrow. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I’m a bone-marrow fan-girl just yet, but I’d try it again. YOLO.

For an entree, Dave ordered the fried chicken roulade with duck fat biscuits, high life apples, cipollini onions, waffle puree, honey espuma and cayenne-maple chicken jus. Holy moly. I kept sneaking bites off of Dave’s plate as I absolutely loved this dish. Those biscuits are a must-have.

I ordered the pork tenderloin which was the star of the night. It was the most tender pork I’ve ever had, like freaking buttah. Since fair is fair, Dave had quite a few bites too. It would be hard for me to go back to L&E and order a different entree – it’s that good.

And one of the best things about the night was sitting across from this handsome fella.

Overall we loved the dinner and there’s so much more on the menu I’d like to try, we’ll definitely go back. Cheers!
