Recently our family friend, Donna, was incredibly sweet and sent me a gift box filled with a bunch of different Bauli cakes, some chestnut creme (I have crepes in mind for this!), Luca Manfe’s cookbook – My Italian Kitchen, and more! I couldn’t believe all of the goodies in front of me once I opened the box – and talk about inspiration! I had about 100 different ideas swimming through my head, so I’m excited to finally share my first dish made from this lovely gift! And I know, I know – it’s more of an idea then a recipe given it’s simplicity – but if you like a sweet breakfast, this is such an easy, yummy treat! You can even order one of these cakes on Amazon – as Ina would say, “how easy is that?”
OH! And because Donna sent so many delicious cakes, I had to share some with my fellow-blogging pal, Katrina over at Baking with Soul. She made Bauli Cake Bread Pudding with Lemon Curd! Holy wow, does it look good!
Cook Time: 12 Minutes
6 slices of panettone, sliced 1/2 inch thick
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup milk
syrup for topping (optional)
First, simply whisk the eggs, vanilla, cinnamon and milk together. Then get a pan heated to medium-high heat. Dip a slice of the panettone into the egg mixture ensuring to coat all sides, nooks and crannies. Let the excess drip off then place into the pan, cooking each side until golden brown. Repeat with all slices and serve! I topped mine with some Toschi cherries that were also part of my gift box (YUM!), but you can certainly do butter and syrup, though this french toast is perfectly sweet all on its own!
