a new favorite: andrea nguyen wontons in gingery broth

You guys! I made my first wontons! Sure, I bought the premade wrappers, but still counts, right? I landed on making this recipe after cleaning out my cookbooks – I decided that if I hadn’t made a recipe from them in a few years (or ever), they were getting donated. So out with the old and in with the new.

I’m excited to start building a little collection of books that challenge me to try something new – dream scenario – a cookbook on every cuisine from around the world. How fun would that be? Alotta books, but man we’d be eating good. Mmmmmm…fooooood.

For my first cookbook restock I knew I wanted to try to make some delicious Vietnamese food at home, so I started doing some research on what books were out there and I immediately landed on Vietnamese Food Any Day by Andrea Nguyen who runs Viet World Kitchen. The reviews were all fabulous, and the recipes included looked DIVINE. I also loved that the book started with some info on sauces, types of noodles and rice, spices and even how to set a table for the meals.

Her writing style is also very endearing – clever, fun, and kind of real-talky in a lovely, welcoming way that makes you feel like she’s hanging out with you in the kitchen as you’re reading through the recipe. Such an awesome book, totally recommend.

Now onto the recipe I tried first – the pork wontons in gingery broth. It was fantastic. The broth was bright and fresh, and the veggies gave great texture against the heavenly pork + scallion stuffed dumplings. This is definitely going to be a staple in our house, and I think it would be perfect for a dinner party.

So, I’m not going to share the recipe on my blog since it’s not mine to share (buy the book y’all!) – but lucky for you all it is already online over at Rachael Ray. Hooray! So I’d suggest heading to the grocery store nowish, picking up the ingredients and making this insanely good pork dumpling dish for you and yours! I mean, check this out:

YUM! Also, making the wontons was much easier than I anticipated. It was even kinda zen. I’m excited to experiment with more fillings too, so many possibilities!

I hope you give this recipe a try, I’m slightly obsessed. 😀

I’d also love to hear what your favorite cookbooks are, so please shoot ’em on over in the comments below, love me a good cookbook reco!

Cheers!
